Five tents covered the grounds in anticipation of a grand and elegant day for a young couple. My team and I busily set the scene with tables, chairs, linens, center pieces, lighting, and all the touches that turn a tent into an exceptional reception location. As I hurried and instructed and stood atop a ladder hanging the lights, a pair of swans glided seemingly effortlessly upon the water.
They were so elegant, so peaceful, and so content. It was then I realized the swan was what I wanted to represent my company. With all the people running around, making loud noise and prepping the area – the swans swam.
As the swan glides through the water their thickly webbed feet kick constantly to move against the tide propelling them to their destination. The wedding celebration is similar in the respect that the bride and groom work very hard to line up all the right people to enable them the ability of gliding through their day with the grace and ease of a swan.
Swans mate for life and will die to protect their spouse. A bride and groom exchange vows and rings to publicly announce their commitment to do the same. This day sets the tone for their marriage and for their life together.
As we have no ability to see the moving webbed feet under the water – the same should be true of all the wedding professionals the bride and groom choose for their wedding day. The linens should lie beautifully, the candles should be lit, the lights should be dimmed and the bride and groom should enjoy the celebration of the entire day.
We here at Elegant by Design have this swan – which we photographed that day – to remind us that it is our responsibility to paddle hard under the water creating the beauty and elegance every bride dreams of. It is our job to enable the couple and their families to glide effortlessly through their evening and into their life together.
